Distribution:
- Nominate- Sikkim, North West Bengal, Bhutan and West Arunachal Pradesh
- f. orientale – North East India (Sout East Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland)
Description: It has a size of 18–20 cm; weight of 25–26 g.
The male of nominate race is blackish indigo, with shiny bluish forehead and shoulder, long graduated tail, white patch on underwing primary coverts, narrow whitish scaling on lower belly to vent. The bill is black & long greyish legs.
The female is dusky olive-brown, paler below, with whitish throat and belly, white-tipped vent.
The juvenile is dark brown, with buff throat streaks and belly tips.
Race orientale – : male is darker than nominate, female paler.
Habitat: It is found in dark, densely vegetated gulleys in primary montane broadleaf evergreen forest and bamboo, it is found at 800–3000 m.
Food habits: It eats insects. It creeps to low parts of vegetation, clambering among bamboo, and feeds there and on ground on small insects.
