Rufous-breasted Bush Robin      Tarsiger hyperythrus

Distribution in India: Breeds in Himalayas; winters in North East Indian Hills

Description: It has a size of 12–13 cm; weight of 11–16 g.

The male is dark royal blue above, with blackish face, paler shining blue forehead and supercilium, shoulder and rump. It has is fulvous-orange from chin to mid-belly and flanks, white mid-belly to undertail-coverts. It has a small black bill, legs are blackish.

The female is warm olive-brown above and to malar, with bright blue tail-coverts and blue-black tail. It has a long narrow buff throat stripe, broad buff eyering, broad ochre-brown breastband shading to orange-tinged flanks, white lower underparts.

The juvenile has no supercilium and shorter tail.

Habitat: It breeds in heavy mixed conifer forest, mixed with tree rhododendron, and in dwarf rhododendron and scattered birch above timberline. It is found at 3400–3800 m in Himalayas. It winters in broadleaf evergreen forest glades and edges, especially along streams and mule roads, foothills to 3500 m in Himalayas.

Food habits: It eats insects. It forages on ground.

Breeding habits: They breed in April-May.
